โDurability of NSM CFRP-to-concrete bond after six years of exposure to laboratory and outdoor environmentsโ
This study provides rare long-term experimental evidence on the durability of near-surface mounted (NSM) CFRP strengthening systems for reinforced concrete structures. The work followed specimens exposed for six years to laboratory-controlled conditions and to real outdoor environments in Portugal, including Lisbon, Serra da Estrela, Elvas, and Viana do Castelo.
The results show that CFRP laminates maintained their mechanical performance after ageing, while the epoxy adhesive was more sensitive to environmental exposure, particularly under water immersion. These findings contribute to more reliable durability assessment and long-term design of CFRP strengthening systems.

This study investigates the structural performance of innovative lightweight sandwich floor panels made of cold-formed steel face sheets, steel web-core reinforcement, and polyurethane foam infill.
Through full-scale static and dynamic flexural testing, the work evaluates the potential of these panels as lightweight flooring systems for the rehabilitation of existing buildings, particularly where reducing structural mass is essential.
The results highlight the promising stabilising effect of the steelโfoam interaction, the good agreement of numerical models up to peak load, and key insights into the failure mechanisms that should guide future design developments.

PhD project: Floor response spectra for the seismic assessment of nonstructural components in reinforced concrete buildings
๐ Abstract-in-brief: This PhD proposal focuses on acceleration-sensitive nonstructural components (NSCs), which seismic demands are commonly characterized using floor response spectra (FRS). The PhD program aims to: (i) investigate the key parameters influencing FRS; and (ii) validate practice-oriented tools available in literature and building codes for FRS prediction. To achieve these objectives, the study will use real data from earthquake-affected buildings monitored by the Italian Seismic Monitoring Network and results from a shaking table test campaign on scaled specimens performed at the Laboratory of Naples within the framewrk of the NEWTON project (buff.ly/VWh4c9U). This study investigates the structural performance of innovative lightweight sandwich floor panels made of cold-formed steel face sheets, steel web-core reinforcement, and polyurethane foam infill.
Through full-scale static and dynamic flexural testing, the work evaluates the potential of these panels as lightweight flooring systems for the rehabilitation of existing buildings, particularly where reducing structural mass is essential.
The results highlight the promising stabilising effect of the steelโfoam interaction, the good agreement of numerical models up to peak load, and key insights into the failure mechanisms that should guide future design developments.

PhD project: Floor response spectra for the seismic assessment of nonstructural components in reinforced concrete buildings
๐ Abstract-in-brief: This PhD proposal focuses on acceleration-sensitive nonstructural components (NSCs), which seismic demands are commonly characterized using floor response spectra (FRS). The PhD program aims to: (i) investigate the key parameters influencing FRS; and (ii) validate practice-oriented tools available in literature and building codes for FRS prediction. To achieve these objectives, the study will use real data from earthquake-affected buildings monitored by the Italian Seismic Monitoring Network and results from a shaking table test campaign on scaled specimens performed at the Laboratory of Naples within the framewrk of the NEWTON project (buff.ly/VWh4c9U).
